Product Description

JZP-9.0-SC Rubber Shock Absorber for Ozone, UV and Static-Sensitive Installations

In short: the JZP-9.0-SC is a 9.0 kg rated rubber shock absorber supplied in three elastomer grades — insulating, antistatic and conductive — on one identical 60 mm body and 50 × 60 mm M5 bolt pattern. The compound is formulated to resist ozone attack and ultraviolet photo-oxidation, so it holds its damping behaviour from −45 °C to +65 °C in sun-exposed, humid and salt-laden locations. Static deflection is 0.3 mm or less at rated load, resonance is 41.5 ± 5 Hz, and the damping ratio is 0.13 or higher.

How rubber mounts age outdoors

Two mechanisms shorten the life of an elastomer mount that sits in daylight:

Ozone cracking. Ozone in the atmosphere reacts with double bonds in the polymer chain. The reaction is fast wherever the material is under tensile strain, which is exactly the condition inside a loaded mount. The result is a pattern of fine cracks at right angles to the strain, starting at the exposed surface and working inward. Once cracks form, the effective cross-section of the damping element shrinks and the stiffness curve changes.

UV photo-oxidation. Ultraviolet energy breaks polymer chains at the surface, leaving a hard, chalky layer that no longer deforms with the core. The skin cracks, moisture enters, and the bond line between rubber and metal becomes the next weak point.

Both effects are progressive and invisible from a distance, which is why mounts that look acceptable at year two can measure very differently at year five.

Where it is specified

  • Outdoor telecom and radio cabinets exposed to direct sun and airborne ozone
  • Coastal, dock-side and offshore installations where salt fog is continuous
  • Board handling, placement and inspection platforms that require charge control at the mounting interface
  • Instrument racks and control panels in electronics assembly halls
  • Process areas where accumulated static charge on isolated metalwork is not acceptable
